Here is an unedited peek from Bought…also in audio
Warm air seemed to wrap around them as they held each other’s gaze.
“Do you think I’m beautiful?”
She caught him off guard.
Not the words. The tone. She sounded small. Vulnerability buried in the question.
Her voice held a slight quaver. He’d hesitated too long.
“Just because there’s money between us doesn’t mean that we should be liars.”
“Yes.” He said softly.
She looked like she needed to hear it again.
“Yes.” He caught her arm just above the elbow and tugged it towards him. His hand sliding down her forearm until he cupped her palm over his hardening erection. “I think you are exquisitely beautiful.”
“Then show me.” Her fingers curled, exploring him through the crotch of his trousers. “I want to remember what beautiful feels like.”
“You didn’t eat well.” Jerricho gently tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. Using the crook of his finger, he tilted her chin to study her face.
“I’m not that hungry.” Scarlet blinked averting her eyes.
But he’d already seen her need.
“Pity.” Still holding her chin he brushed the pad of his thumb over the swell of her bottom lip. “Because dessert’s nowhere near done.” He spoke softly to her, intimately, as if Killian was not in the room. Voyeurs stood on the outside.
He sank his hand into her hair, grabbing and twisting to get a firm grip until his knuckles tucked close against her skull. Everything about her seemed to sink with relief as her lids shuttered tight. The faintest hint of a smile on her lips as she went limp in surrender.
Killian reached for her and this time she didn’t bother resisting as he pulled her into his chest. He wrapped her up in his arms and placed his lips close to her ear. “I hear Lana’s back from Europe, why don’t you take her out to lunch?”
“I don’t want a friend.”
He sank his fingers into her hair at the back of her neck, grasping it tightly into a fist as if he couldn’t hold her close enough. “Call Lana. Please baby, for me.”
Hot anger flared at the futility of the conversation. Scarlet struggled against him but it only made Killian hug her tighter.
“You know what it feels like when you fight me, Scar?”
His voice was so soft, she stilled as she shook her head.
“It feels like you’ve lost all faith in me.”
Damn him for deliberately trying to steal her anger.
And damn him for his stupid code of honour that would prove him to be a man of his word while destroying them in the process.
“No. No…you’ve got it wrong. I’ve never lost faith in you. It’s you…” The anger choked on her tears. “You’ve lost your faith in that.”
